The enemy of art is the absence of limitations

Carrie Cates is an independent film producer, production designer and production manager. Since moving from the Hoosier state to Austin, TX she has produced 3 feature length films and quite a few award winning shorts. She has worked on everything from commercials (Indian Motorcycles, RAM Trucks, Academy Sports, and more) to music videos -- her last for Paul Cauthen was talked about in Rolling Stone and has over a million views on youtube, but her heart really is tangled up in the horror genre. She has produced a number of horror flicks with her husband, Kyle Cates (director + score composer @KACMusic), and they have a horror podcast called The Scary Movie List show (@scarymovielistshow) where they talk about all kinds of scary flicks. She was a long-time film educator, and in 2013, she founded a youth film festival for junior high and high school students in Central Texas, the Austin Youth Film Festival. She co-founded the non-profit organization, the Alliance for Young Future Filmmakers that puts on the festival each year, and continues to put her efforts toward its mission as AYFF’s Development and Public Relations Director. A woman of many projects, she has been Lake Travis Film Festival's head of programming for the last two years and in 2023 will be taking on the role of Artistic Director. She’s a self-proclaimed collaboration enthusiast, and is always looking for new ways to bridge communication gaps in production efficiency. Needless to say, she is incredibly supportive and involved in the Austin film scene, and enthusiastic about sharing her passion for the medium.
